[He sort of puffs up a little, not sure how to respond to that. He tries to be, but he doesn't know how to say thank you without sounding--ugh. Full of himself, and not in the usual bluffing kind of way. His brows draw together a little.]
You're important to me, [is what he settles on eventually.] I'd drop anything to help you out. I'm just glad you asked this time.
[And he doesn't know what to do with himself, now. With his hands or his face or his words. His mouth works a little, before he focuses on Shuji's smile and cracks a sideways one himself.]
Get you some water. [He puts his hands on his knees and stands, glad to be moving.] And then later tonight or tomorrow night maybe we'll get you wasted like you want. Be right back. [And he darts off to the kitchenette, ducking back in in thirty seconds or so.]

It's good to know he still has his priorities in the right place. Or. In the same place, which may or may not be the right one.]

[He flops down on the edge of the bed again, pushes the water into Shuji's hands, and settles in like he lives here. Taking up a little more space than he should, probably, knee bumping Shuji's companionably. He has this habit of making himself at home anywhere.]
[For now, he's content. It isn't over and he knows that, nothing's resolved that easily--but it's a start, and he's here, and he's happy to be exactly where he is.]
Drink up.

He takes a gulp of water. It helps, a little.]
...Hey, if you ever remember something like this... I'm not always the best at advice, but I'll listen, okay? I'm good at listening.
no subject
[He bumps Shuji's knee a little.]
Don't worry about it. If it happens, you'll be the first to know. I trust you with shit like that.
no subject
Thanks. I hope you don't remember anything this bad, obviously but - yeah. If it happens.

Kinda of two minds about that. I keep thinking I'm not the kind of guy who anything really important could ever have happened to. Not even in another place or time or possibility. I'm just me.
But then maybe everybody thinks that?
no subject
And your 'just you' is pretty cool, you know.
no subject
[.............ok mista]
Thanks, though. I like your just you a lot too.
no subject
Maybe you were even more cool in your hallucinomemories. You could have been the next Doc Holliday.
[...the fuck are tenses.]
no subject
Yeah, I bet. I never even touched a gun before. That'd be kind of cool, though. [And he hums the opening notes of exactly what you expect this link to be.]
no subject
[He'd be an excellent person to write a book about. Or a movie.]
no subject
[His brows draw together a bit.]
It's not right, though, hurting people no matter what they've done. That's what I was taught, even if it seems kinda backwards. You think people would still be okay with me if I was someone like that?
no subject
[When Shuji's confident, it's usually overblown, puffing himself up to convince himself as well as others. This is different - a quiet confidence that can't picture any other answer.]
No matter what that person did, or was - you're still you. You're still here now, and you make your own choices. There's nothing you can do about the things you remember, but right now you've decided to be a really, really good person.

[Shuji's faith in him seems the size of the whole sky, sometimes. In moments like these Mista doesn't know how to respond to him. The worst part of it is he feels like he's lying. He shouldn't tell Shuji what happened, why he had to leave home--but he's lying, making Shuji think he's a really, really good person, when honestly--]
[Sure, he is most of the time. But he's also not sorry about one thing that really matters.]
. . . You should be a motivational speaker or something. [He cracks a halfhearted grin.]
no subject
[So motivational speaking is out, unless motivational texting is a thing or he gets over social anxiety.]
no subject
[It's not as lucrative, but at least Mista's appreciative?]
no subject
[Mista thinks he's motivational, he'd run across the city to be able to help him out.]
