♥ malik: met malik while he was working at fake-starbucks. malik was a troubled kid with a stank attitude so obviously mista asked what was bugging him a lot, and eventually they got to a point where malik actually kinda liked him. then mista got fired and malik was like >:( come back you fuck!! they talk a fair amount about feeling out of place--malik because he's egyptian-american, mista because he's a very reluctant immigrant.
♡ abdul: abdul was a friend of the aunt & uncle mista came to live with when he came to recolle; they were totally unprepared for suddenly a 15 year old, so they went to abdul desperate for advice. abdul was like ??? but he ended up being a pretty good mentor. mista listens to him for the most part, and they share stories--abdul about his work, mista about napoli.
♥ karl: IT'S PADRE. karl is new in the local parish, but he deals with all the rough cases, of which mista is one. they generally get along pretty well, and mista trusts him a lot because he's not super critical of, you know. every life choice mista's ever made. most of them are bad, so.
♡ may: church pal, MUSIC PAL, hooligan pal. they align in all of their interests. a perfect friendship.
♥ chloe: mista met chloe through church! she's french and he's italian, so they probably complain about american food together a lot. they are also both romantically-inclined meddlers, so when they get together and target someone they are way doomed. they also talk about home together a lot because they are both tres homesick.
♡ mafuyu: they overlapped in school briefly and mafuyu thinks mista is cool so he is duty bound to keep her mostly out of trouble. sometimes she skips school and hassles him and he mostly drags her back but sometimes buys her lunch instead. whoops.
♥ tuuri: tuuri is non-host staff at the host club and mista is p fond of her! they both complain about how shitty the us is and how homesick they are.
♡ majima: mista was in the middle of getting into a fistfight with someone over clint eastwood when majima broke it up!! he is now one of the official Good Influence Adults, or at least Medium Influence. they go to karaoke sometimes and ham it up. also mista is working for majima now, in the first steady job he's had in a good while. he started as a bouncer for the host club but he's a host proper now unless they need a bouncer to fill in. majima is a good boss and mista would protect him With His Life.
♥ shuji (dazai): they met when they were working retail together. despite being older, shuji was a more delicate flower, and mista cussed out a customer who was rude to him and was subsequently fired. no regrets. mista feels p protective of shuji because he is A Mess and checks in on him a lot.
♡ angel: they met when mista was working at fake-starbucks and angel was dying of the grad student life. he snuck her extra shots until he was caught. and then just continued doing it #yolo. even now he doesn't work there anymore, they keep up with each other, and are sometimes MOVIE BUDDIES. sometimes he talks her into shenanigans.
♥ steinbeck: they are both Disillusioned Youths and irreverent christians who are struggling to fit into society, so naturally they're friends. they met after complaining about rich ppl in a coffee shop.
♡ kunikida: mista was kunikida's student in his last semester of high school and kunikida was perpetually infuriated by his unwillingness to JUST DO THE MATH?? DO THE MATH, DO IT. DO THE FUCKING MATH. whenever they run into each other kunikida is like (screams after) APPLY YOURSELF, and they run into each other with some frequency since mista does So Many Jobs.
♥ kirigiri: mista met kirigiri when she was traveling in italy! he took her on a spontaneous tour of napoli and then they never met again until recolle, when she was investigating a pickpocketing incident and--it was mista. it was just mista. since then they've become friends, and he has a deep curiosity for her detective work and a vested interest in carrying her shopping bags.
♡ kanji: DEPENDS WHICH AU IS PICKED but they are def v close and mista looks out for kanji :V and tootsie roll :VVV
♥ nikkari: met in the middle of the night when mista was heading back from a third shift and nik was looking for ghosts. mista is both fascinated and horrified by his ghost blog, and also encourages him to be the shitposter he wants to be.
♡ chuuya: met while mista was working a delivery job; he brought produce to chuuya's restaurant and chatted him up, as he does, and sometimes cut him some deals.
