[It really wasn't too bad, keeping track of time passing outside. Every moment of doing the math was absolute hell, of course, but it was important. Knowing time still ticked on outside the bubble of Thay made it easier to keep perspective on the anxiety-inducing repetition within.
And, you know, she had important friend anniversaries to keep in mind, which was obviously the most important part!
It never even occurred to her that they might not realize.
So, awaiting his reaction with bated breath, she's not expecting something like this.
Surprise and a hint of worry completely overtake her eager smile.] Oh! [And she reaches out and shuffles aside to usher him into the room so that he may have his feelings in the privacy of not the hallway.]
[He allows himself to be nudged into the room, his sniffles graduating into. Well. Louder sniffles. He's not quite crying, but his eyes are definitely red as he comes to an aimless stop just a few feet inside the doorway.]
[After a moment, he rubs his eyes, feet shuffling uncertainly. This is stupid. He doesn't quite look at her.]
[She closes the door behind him, and now that he's in the room, it's easier to see that she's also set out some snacks on the desk, including a cupcake with very squished frosting but which has nonetheless had MISTA added to it in festive decoration.
She's forgotten about that for the moment, though, because she's got a sniffly boyfriend on her hands and that's always going to be the #1 priority in any given situation.
Her smile as she gives his arm a reassuring squeeze is sympathetic, but not too fretful.] Yeah, I had to do a bunch of math to make sure I didn't miss it. [The things we do for love, etc.] But I remembered so it's okay!
[It's comforting, that gentle squeeze on his arm. It reminds him to look at her, eyes wide and awed.]
You did math for me? [Damn. That's love.] You didn't have to do that. [Such sacrifice.]
[The card is still in his hand. He looks down at it again, finally taking all the details in. It's . . .]
You put strawberry shortcake. And . . . look at all the little guys. [Oh, the sniffles are gone now as he fondly touches the drawings of the Pistols, two high fives and a familiar little fight. His fingertips land on Sayori, on her bow. It's . . . cute. The whole thing is cute, and sweet. Is he seriously this lucky?]
[The distinct glow of pride lights up her expression.] Yeah!
[...]
Well— okay, I love you but it wasn't just for you. It's Dave's birthday today too! So it was twice as important to keep track!
[She can't believe two of her favorite boys share a birthday. Hopefully Alex and Ferran did not also have birthdays today without telling her.] I would've gotten a real cake but the merchants here aren't very friendly.
